With colder weather settled in and days that seem like there’s very little any daylight, it can be tough to always feel like your home is a cozy place to be. That goes far beyond having annual furnace service too, because there are numerous things you can do to help make your home feel cozy even when your furnace is running at its best.
Here are four that we find especially helpful here in Zelienople:
- Seal air leaks. Air leaks, whether they’re around your windows or your doors, could mean a lot of air is sneaking out of your home. And, the air that you’ve just paid to be heated or cooled is making its way outside too. There are a host of fixes that can help you seal those gaps, from weatherstripping to caulking, and they are fairly easy fixes for homeowners to do themselves.
- Switch your furnace filter. This is one of the most critical things you can do to not only boost your furnace’s efficiency, but also to help save you on your energy costs. Plus, you don’t need to have your furnace service technician to do it, you can handle it yourself. It’s normally recommended to switch your furnace filter every one or two months to get the most out of its capabilities, but some may last even longer.
- Buy plants. Indoor plants can offer a variety of comforts for your home. Not only are they visually appealing, they could likely boost your indoor air quality as well because plants absorb a host of toxins that are emitted from a variety of common household cleaners, paints and other products.
- Furnace service. This should be something that you’re already handling, but it never hurts to have a reminder. Having furnace service performed annually helps you be sure that your furnace is in working-order, and if there’s a need for repairs, those can be addressed so your comfort isn’t conceded.
It doesn’t have to feel tough to keep a comfortable home when winter sets in. Feel free to give us a call at 724-425-5852 to hear about any of these suggestions or find out more about furnaces, our furnace service or anything else comfort related.
