What To Do When the Heat Goes Out03/08/2017Call it Murphy’s Law, or maybe just a little misfortune, but we sometimes see heat pump problems in Zelienople during the colder seasons, when they’re needed the most to keep you warm. While you know the team at Knoechel Heating Company will forever be there ASAP when you need us for a heat pump repair, there are some things you can do to confirm that a repair is necessary and save yourself some cash if it’s not. We’ve collected this checklist of things to attempt before you give us a call. It may sound silly, but make sure everything is set to “on”. We’ve been to more than a few calls only to find the thermostat or the heat pump itself is switched off. Look at your thermostat to guarantee it’s on, set to the appropriate temperature and isn’t switched to cool. Then try swapping out the battery, if it has one. If everything looks correct, check your furnace switch (check your manual if you’re not sure where it is) and check your fuses and circuit breaker. Confirm that your gas is on. If the furnace still hasn’t switched on, go back to your thermostat. If it’s a programmable model, make sure it’s displaying the accurate time. If it thinks it’s morning when it’s really night, it may not kick your heat on because it doesn’t know you’re home. Is an obstruction causing your furnace to fail? Examine your air filters to make sure they’re not clogging things up. Do you have any blocked ducts, vents or cool air openings? Are all supply registers exposed? Is your exhaust flue clear? If you’ve gone through this checklist and you’re still without heat, call Knoechel Heating Company at 724-452-6280 or set up an appointment online and we’ll get your home back to the welcoming and cozy place it should be.
